Changes to accessing the ATO Business Portal
The way you access the ATO Business Portal is changing. From the end of March this year, you will no longer be able to use AUSkey as it is being retired by the ATO. If you are currently accessing the Business Portal using your myGov details (via Manage ABN Connections) you’re also going to be impacted by this change.
AUSkey and Manage ABN Connections are being replaced with a new identification app myGovID and the Relationship Authorisation Manager (RAM) service:
- myGovID – the Australian Government’s digital identity provider and a new way to prove your identity online. Establish your identity once and use your myGovID to access government services online. You will need a compatible smart phone / device to enable use of this.
Note: this is not related in any way to your personal myGov account. - Relationship Authorisation Manager (RAM) – Australian Government authorisation service that allows you to link your myGovID to your ABN and manage who can act on behalf of your business online.
The above services have been introduced to improve security when accessing Government business and service portals, allowing you to manage your business’ tax and super affairs, grants and payroll securely through the portal.
How to get started
Step 1: Make sure your details on the Australian Business Register (ABR), are up to date.
Step 2: Download the myGovID app on your smart device and use your identity documents to set-up your myGovID.
Step 3: Link your ABN to your myGovID via the RAM, so you can use government online services:
- Log in to RAM using your myGovID;
- Select ‘Link your Business’; (Note: you must be listed as a sole trader or eligible associate of this business in the ABR).
You are ready to go! Once you have accessed the portal you can then make changes to who else can act on behalf of your business and decide on their level of access.
